Aloha Performing Arts Company announces open auditions for volunteer teen and adult actors for its October season opener, “Plan 9 from Outer Space” by Mark Landon Smith.

The comedy is loosely based on the 1959 cult film of the same name. The movie won two Golden Turkey Awards: for Worst Picture of All Time, and for Worst Director of All Time, Edward D. Woo Jr. The film and the play feature silly, not-so-special effects, aliens in skating skirts, angry military officers and a small squadron of grave-robbing zombies.

Auditions will be held Sept. 6-7 at Aloha Theatre, with a possible invitational callback audition at 6 p.m. Sept. 8, if necessary. Rehearsals will begin Sept. 11, and performance dates are October 14-30.

Director Jerry Tracy is seeking a cast to play 30 roles: 10 female, 10 male, and 10 of any gender. Actors may be asked to play more than one role. Auditions will consist of reading from the script, which is available for perusal by arrangement with APAC Operations Director Melissa Geiger at 322-9924 or by emailing info@apachawaii.org. In addition, prospective cast members are asked to create a 1-3 minute monologue, which tells the story of an alien abduction.

Many technical and crew positions are also available. Prospective crew members are invited to attend auditions to show interest and fill out forms.

Info: 322-9924, or director Jerry Tracy at 936-5739.
