All visiting Kiwanis and prospective members are invited. The speaker will be Pablo Beimler, community outreach coordinator for Hawaii Wildfire Management Organization.
Kiwanis looks to serve the community by conducting service projects that respond to identified needs, especially related to children.

Yoga class offered Wednesday
Yoga Solutions for Weight Loss is offered by donation from 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Yano Hall in Kealakekua.

Humpback whale advisory council seeks applicants
Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary is seeking applicants to fill eight primary seats and one alternate seat on its advisory council. The council ensures public participation in sanctuary matters and provides advice to sanctuary management.
Candidates are selected based on their expertise and experience in relation to the seat for which they are applying, community and professional affiliations and views regarding the protection and management of marine resources. Applicants who are chosen as members or alternates should expect to serve a two-year term.

Line dance classes start soon
Line dance classes offer a fun way to exercise both body and brain. The next session begins Thursday and continues on Thursdays for eight weeks at Pacific Island Fitness on Luhia Street.
Line dancing at the beginner level is from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and classes for those with more experience are from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Classes end Sept. 29.
The session fee for an hour class is $35 for the eight weeks, or $7 to drop in for one class. For both hours, the fee is $49 for the session, or $9 for one night.
Wear comfortable clothing and shoes and bring water. Shoes that may scuff the wood floor are not allowed.
All ages are welcome. Those younger than 12 may attend free. No pre-registration is needed. Come a little early to sign-in near the front door. Class starts promptly at 6:30 p.m.

The Kailua-Kona Seniors meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hale Halawai. After the meeting, the group will walk or drive to the Fumi restaurant for lunch.

VFW plans announced
VFW Post 12122 behind Kona Locksmith off Kaiwi Street has several upcoming events.
Zero’s tacos will be served with salad and dessert for $5 from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday.
The regular monthly VFW meeting is at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

South Kona market under new ownership
The South Kona Green Market is under new ownership and is growing.
The name has changed to Pure Kona Green Market. Leona Balucan of Kainaliu is the new owner. Balucan was in the dental and travel profession for several decades.
Vendors offer this country-style market on Sundays in Captain Cook at the site of the Greenwell Botanical Gardens. Arts, crafts, foods, services and entertainment are offered.
