On July 21, Joshua Salazar, a valedictorian of Honokaa High School’s class of 2016, flew to Oahu to accept an $18,000 scholarship from the Fukunaga Scholarship Foundation.
He was one of 13 college-bound students to receive the scholarship, originally from a pool of 92 applicants throughout the state of Hawaii.
The Fukunaga Scholarship Foundation was formed in 1950 to support Hawaii residents in their efforts to earn degrees at accredited colleges and universities in the areas of business.
Salazar plans to attend Menlo College in Atherton, California this fall with a major in business entrepreneurship. He has received an additional $90,000 in other scholarships from institutions such as North Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation, Longs Drugs, Foodland, HLP Hamakua Foundation and Menlo College.
