LIHUE (AP) — Kauai police are investigating a murder-suicide of an estranged couple.
Police responding to shots fired at a Puhi apartment complex Monday night found a man and woman dead.
Detectives believe 45-year-old Justin Gibbons shot his 42-year-old wife Celestae Gibbons before shooting himself.
Police say Justin Gibbons approached his wife as she was getting out of her vehicle, while their 9-year-old daughter sat in the backseat.
Police say they were arguing outside the vehicle when Justin Gibbons shot his wife, who ran into a nearby unit to seek shelter. Police say he followed her and shot her again.
Police say Justin Gibbons ran outside the complex, where he shot and killed himself.
The couple’s daughter wasn’t injured. She’s in the custody of Child Protective Services.
