KEKAHA (AP) — A Kauai beach is closed to swimming because of a shark sighting.

Lifeguards report a shark about 8-feet-long was seen offshore at Kekaha Beach Tuesday. It’s not known what kind of shark.

As a safety precaution, county officials are advising no swimming until further notice. Lifeguards will continue to monitor the beach.

The beach will remain closed until at least Wednesday morning. That’s when lifeguards will reassess whether to reopen the beach.
