West Hawaii Community Health Center in partnership with Donkey Mill Art Center is hosting the second annual Art Is Healing multimedia juried art exhibition to continue building a permanent collection of art for the new West Hawaii Community Health Center Kealakehe.
The Art Is Healing initiative brings together the power to bridge differences and connects individuals of different backgrounds and experiences. Through art, the health center wants to make connections by sharing stories and sharing individuals truth, building empathy, compassion, and a healthy respect for one another.
“West Hawaii Community Health Center believes that art can inspire lifelong health and wellness as well as aid in the healing process. Art connects us to our community and we want it to cover our walls,” said the center’s director, Richard Taaffe.
Interested artists are encouraged to interpret and explore the concept of Art Is Healing and may submit pieces from all disciplines in visual arts including wood, fiber, clay, metal, drawing, painting, prints and photography. Artists are limited to two submissions and each piece must include a completed entry form with description and signed agreement.
All accepted works will be considered for purchase, especially those that build on the health center’s vision of health, humanity and community well-being for the people of Hawaii Island.
All works considered for jurying must meet the professional and aesthetic standards of the exhibition committee. Two-dimensional works must be properly framed and ready to hang. Three-dimensional pieces must be free standing and secured from tipping.
Deadline for submission is Sept. 2. All artwork must be hand-delivered between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to West Hawaii Community Health Center Kealakehe located at 74-5214 Keanalehu Drive in Kailua-Kona.
West Hawaii Community Health Center will host Art Is Healing opening exhibition reception on Sept. 30.
