KEALAKEKUA – Nearly 100 Kona Historical Society members, dignitaries and kamaaina ranchers gathered Saturday for a reception and preview of the “Kona Ranching and Kona Cowboys: Our Way of Life” exhibit at the H.N. Greenwell Store Museum in Kealakekua. This special event gave invited guests the first opportunity to experience the exhibition on Kona’s largely hidden history of cowboys and ranching.

The exhibit, which opens to the public on Tuesday, gives an intimate look into the people, traditions and ties that remain vital and strong in Kona, now more than two centuries after cattle and horses first landed here. It features homestead life, families clothing and tools. From poignant portraits to picturesque vistas, the exhibit invites viewers to consider and look closely at this distinctive cowboy culture and life.

The “Kona Ranching and Kona Cowboys: Our Way of Life” exhibit will be offered Tuesday through July 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays at the H.N. Grenoble Store Museum. Admission to the exhibit is by donation.
