HONOLULU (AP) — A retired Honolulu police major charged with striking and killing a woman with his pickup truck last year has pleaded no contest to negligent homicide.
Charles Duncan entered the plea in court Tuesday in connection with the February 2015 death of 49-year-old Shari Afuso.
Police say Duncan had been driving in Mililani when he made a turn and hit Afuso as she was jogging in a crosswalk. The victim, who had been a courtroom manager for a magistrate judge, died the following day at a hospital.
Duncan faces a five-year prison term when he’s sentenced in September.
The 73-year-old retired from the Honolulu Police Department in 1996 after more than 30 years of service.
