Kona Brewing Co. has earned the Surfrider Foundation Hawaii’s most prestigious ocean-friendly award for its continued commitment to sustainability and protecting the ocean by reducing the use of single-use plastics.

Kona Brewing’s pubs in Kailua-Kona and Koko Head, Oahu received platinum-level Ocean Friendly Restaurants Hawaii certifications on World Oceans Day June 8 for reducing the use of disposable plastic food service items, which often pollute beaches, the ocean and pose a threat to marine life. The platinum-level certification is the Surfrider Foundation’s most prestigious award in the OFR category. Kona Brewing is the first restaurant in Hawaii to earn the award.
