Heart program focuses on health
Island Heart Care will be offering patients an approach to reverse cardiac disease, “Dr. Ornish’s Reversing Heart Disease Intensive Cardiac Rehab Program,” beginning July 5.
This treatment option addresses the root cause of heart disease utilizing lifestyle as treatment. The program, Dr. Dean Ornish and his research have been featured widely in national media, including stories in Newsweek, TIME, U.S. News &World Report and The New York Times.
The program, covered by insurance, will be offered at Island Heart Care’s new location in Kona Crossroads Shopping Center on Henry Street, next to Safeway, in Kailua-Kona.
The Medicare-approved program has been available on the mainland since 2010.
Hawaii Island will now be offered the opportunity to attend 18 four-hour group sessions for a total of 72 hours. Each session can accommodate approximately 15 individuals who focus on improvement in four key areas: exercise, stress management, nutrition and group support.
