Lee named Kohala Officer of the Quarter
The Hawaii Island Safety and Security Professionals Association recognized Officer May Lee as Kohala Officer of the Quarter for January-March during a ceremony on May 13.
Officer Lee was honored for a traffic enforcement project that led to the arrest of a wanted person who was in possession of a loaded gun.
On Jan. 15, while conducting speeding enforcement, Lee stopped a motorist and recognized him as someone who was wanted on an outstanding bench warrant. The driver had been speeding, had no valid driver’s license, registration or insurance, and was using a fraudulent safety sticker. Lee arrested the driver and had the vehicle towed. Police recovered two unregistered firearms, one which was loaded, and initiated nine gun-related cases.
Lt. Juergen Canda praised Lee her for her “outstanding commitment” in nomination papers.
Digital media arts classes at Palamanui
Starting this fall, Hawaii Community College will begin offering an associate of science degree in digital media arts and will also begin offering digital media arts classes at the Hawaii Community College – Palamanui campus in Kona.
The Digital Media Arts program is offering three courses at the Palamanui campus beginning this fall: Introduction to Visual Arts, Introduction to Digital Arts and 2-Dimensional Design.
The Introduction to Visual Arts course fulfills a general education requirement and may be useful for students in many different degree programs. The other two courses fulfill requirements specific to the digital media arts associate of science degree and certificate of competence.
The campus plans to offer additional digital media arts classes in the spring 2017 semester.
There are 14 digital media arts classes offered this fall at the Hilo campus, and many of them are offered online, which makes them available to students in West Hawaii.
The deadline to apply for the fall semester is Aug. 1. Info: hawaii.hawaii.edu.
