KALAHEO, Hawaii — Four dogs believed to have been taken from the Kauai Humane Society in May are no longer missing after police spotted the animals while arresting a fugitive.

Kauai Police Department officers arrested 45-year-old Orlando Manguchei more than a year after his Jan. 14, 2015, disappearance from a transitional home.

Manguchei was serving time for terroristic threatening and third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug.

Authorities found four dogs in the area of Manguchei’s arrest.

All four were believed to have been taken from the humane society.

The theft included three mixed breed pit bulls, two Airedale terriers, and a 2-month-old lab mix named Arianna that was later found wandering along a road.

The animals were returned to the shelter.
