The Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts is seeking Hawaii visual artists to commission a sculpture for the new Kona Judiciary Complex in Kailua-Kona.

Through a Request for Qualifications, the foundation intends to establish a qualified pool of individual professional artists for consideration. Various sites on the property offer opportunities for freestanding 3-D work on the exterior of the building. Sculptors using a variety of durable materials are encouraged to apply.

The deadline to apply is July 3. Artists born and/or educated in Hawaii, regardless of whether they currently reside in Hawaii; obtained a major part of artistic training and development in Hawaii; or has made a significant impact in Hawaii through exhibitions, installations, and or commissions are eligible to apply.

The Kona Judiciary Complex project will provide a modern courthouse facility in and to serve the growing West Hawaii region. It will consolidate court facilities currently dispersed in multiple buildings throughout Kona, improve court operations, facilitate fair and timely case resolution, increase security, and promote access to the justice system.
