The Hawaii Tourism Authority and the WTA announced the Hawaii Open tennis tournament at a press conference on Thursday. The event will be held Nov. 20-27 at the Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park in Waipahu on Oahu.
A release billed the event as the first-ever world class tennis tournament to be held in Hawaii, with names like Misaki Doi, Christina McHale and Daniela Hantuchova making the trip to the Aloha State. Other top-ranked WTA talent like CiCi Bellis and Lauren Davis will be included in a 32-player singles main draw, an 8-player qualifying draw and an 8-team doubles draw.
The announcement comes on the heels of the Big Island hosting a well-attended Fed Cup event between the US and Poland in February at Holua Tennis Center in Kona.
The courts at the Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park are scheduled for resurfacing this summer in preparation for the Hawaii Open.
Organizers are thrilled to bring WTA tennis to Oahu for the first time.

Mink Central Oahu Regional Park. With 20 tennis courts, it’s a tennis player’s paradise. WTA players will love it.”
The Hawaii Open is the only WTA tournament held after the US Open in the United States and the only tournament held during Thanksgiving Week.
