OCEAN VIEW – The Ocean View Community Center was transformed into a one-stop medical clinic Friday and Saturday for Tropic Care 2016. The 1984th United States Army Hospital Pacific (USAH-P), an Army Reserve unit, conducted Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) mission providing medical care to Ocean View residents, a medically underserved community.
Working closely, with the Department of Health State of Hawaii, Hawaii County and Community Organizations, the 1984th USAH-P, supplemented with units from the 119th Medical Wing, North Dakota Air National Guard, 807th Medical Deployment Support Command, 44th Medical Brigade, and Navy Ophthalmic Supplies Training and Readiness Activity, focused on medical health screenings, family practice, youth sports physicals, audiology screenings, dental exams and minor procedures, and optometry. A mobile eye glass fabrication team produced single vision glasses for all prescriptions written at the event.
A health fair showcased available services provided by local organizations.
Another clinic will be held today through Saturday at Keaau High School.
