KAILUA-KONA — The Hawaii State Department of Educationis looking for public input on a plan for student success as it, in conjunction with the Board of Education, revamps its Strategic Plan for the next three years. But the opportunity for the public to weigh in is limited, ending May 31.
The passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act, which was signed into law by President Obama in December, has allowed greater flexibility and ceded more control over educational programming and standards back to the state level.
Public feedback on how HIDOE can best utilize the opportunities afforded by the new law can be submitted via an online survey at hiqualityed.tumblr.com. Questions involve what citizens understand about HIDOE’s vision and values, how citizens define student success and what innovations or approaches can be implemented to improve educational practices and programs with a goal of college readiness.
