HONOLULU (AP) — Officials say an SUV and a school bus carrying elementary school children collided near the Kamehameha Highway in Kaaawa, and three students and the driver of the other vehicle have been taken to the hospital.

The school bus was carrying about 30 elementary students and adult chaperones when the accident happened just after 7 p.m. Tuesday. Honolulu Fire Department Capt. David Jenkins says three girls, all about 10 years old, were treated at the site and taken by emergency personnel to a hospital.

Jenkins says the woman driving the SUV had to extricated from the vehicle after being pinned. He says she was stabilized and taken to a hospital.

There is no immediate word on the extent of the injuries or condition of the children or the woman.
