It’s pizza night at VFW

The VFW Auxiliary will host a dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. today. Pizza with homemade crust and sauce, salad and dessert will be served for $5.

The post is across Kaiwi Street from Allies Ice House. Families are welcome.

Kona Kupuna Singles will meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. May 24 at Jackie Rey’s.

Group to discuss development of healthy children

Community members are forming a coalition to discuss creating an environment for the development of healthy children. It is for parents, kupuna, agencies, business leaders and individuals.

The next meeting is planned from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 31 at Sweet Spot Coffee Shop, 75-159 Lunapule Road.

Light pupu will be provided.

Scholarships available for Hawaiian studies students

Na Wai Iwi Ola’s kupuna raised $3,000 for Hawaiian studies students who will be or registered for the current term or the next term at Hawaii Community College — Palamanui.

There are 30 $100 gifts available.

To apply, send a three-paragraph letter limited to one page answering the following questions. 1. Why you are in, or planning to be in, the Hawaiian studies program, 2. What aspect of Hawaiian studies interest you the most and why? 3. How do you plan to use these studies in the future? Applicants should include their name, address, phone number, email address, where they live and school they are currently attending at the top.

Applications for these funds should be titled Palamanui Hawaiian Study Funds and be emailed to Cindy Kuupua Whitehawk at blossoming_whitehawk@yahoo.com by June 24.
