Dave Hebert, aka Dave A’Bear, member of the Jerry Garcia Band, has been chosen to sing and play Jerry’s role, together with keyboard member, Melvin Seals. They will offer three concerts on the Big Island starting Thursday in Kailua-Kona.
Continuing the band’s legacy since Garcia’s death in 1995, A Bear’s Choice, has been playing across America at festivals, theaters and live music venues. Accompanying Hebert from Jerry Garcia Band, is Pete Lavezzoli, on drums, and John-Paul McLean, on bass. Evan Jnes returns with Dave A’Bear, as well as Colorado’s Dylan Tiefer, Big Island’s own, Kristen Johnson, and Troll from the Maui Prankster’s.
The performances will feature band favorites, as well as some of Herbert’s original compositions.
The Kailua-Kona show is 7 p.m. Thursday at Laverne’s Sports Bar.
At 9 p.m. May 27 is “A’Bear’s Choice” featuring Dave A’Bear, Lavezzoli, McLean (JGB), Jones, Tiefer, Troll, and Johnson at Hilo Town Tavern in Hilo.
At 4 p.m. May 28, “A’Bear’s Choice” takes the stage with special guest Bottle of Blue at Tiki Mama’s in Ocean View.
