This summer two boys and four girls, ages 11-17, will stay at Huehue Ranch in Kailua-Kona for Fukushima Kids Hawaii’s Summer School Project. During their stay, they will learn and practice permaculture, preparing food from harvesting, cooking and eating from the healthy soil of Huehue Ranch farm and Ginger Hill Farm; Japanese traditional medicine; a science based social-emotional learning method called connection practice developed by Rasur Foundation International, uniting empathy and insight; and American and Hawaiian culture.

Violinist Ursula Vietze will play Vivaldi’s Four Seasons “Summer” accompanied by Annu Shionoya on piano during Sunday’s concert. There also will be a silent auction featuring work by Mayumi Oda and Hiroki Morinoue, as well as Japanese kimono collections, with wine and pupu.

Suggested donation is $20. Seating is limited. To book for the concert, email: rawinfo@harmonicslife.net.

Fukushima Kids Hawaii has been inviting children and mothers from Fukushima following the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami off Japan followed by meltdowns at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. So far, 86 people from Fukushima have been hosted in Kona over six summers.
