Irrigation school offered

The Landscape Industry Council of Hawaii, in partnership with the University of Hawaii Cooperative Extension Service, is offering an irrigation school to landscape professionals and home gardeners.

Instructed by Martin Miyashiro, SiteOne Landscape Supply, the two-day training offers a short course in irrigation design and troubleshooting. Topics include: hydraulics, installation, electrical and controllers, valves, sprinkler heads and remote control. This training also prepares students for the Landscape Industry Certified Technician-Irrigation testing program scheduled in June in Kona.

The class is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 10 at the Hawaii Community College – Palamanui campus. Cost is $250. Space is limited and early registration is suggested.

Tuition assistance (50 percent) is available through the Department of Labor’s Employment Training Fund to qualified employers. Apply by May 27.

Long distance learning options presented

The University Center, West Hawaii located at Hawaii Community College – Palamanui and the Shidler College of Business (University of Hawaii at Manoa) will host an informational meeting. Scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday in room 101, it will focus on the Distance Learning Executive MBA and the Masters of Human Resource Management programs offered by Shidler. The meeting is free.
