Paul Scovel
Paul Frederick Scovek, 51, of Honolulu died May 4, 2016, in his home. Born Sept. 24, 1964, in San Diego, he was an entrepreneur and worked in pharmaceutical sales.
Friends may call at 8 a.m. May 21 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Halawa Chapel, 99-641 Pohue St. on Oahu for a 10:30 a.m. service. Burial is at 1:30 p.m. at Laie Cemetery. Family requests aloha attire be worn.
He is survived by wife, Molly Scovel of Honolulu, mother, Leilani Scovel of Kohala; brothers, John (Phoebe) Scovel of Honokaa, Brandon Fredrick of Honolulu; sister, Lara (Jeremy) Hook of Kohala; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Luciana Jose
Luciana “Lucing” Rivera Jose, 85, of Hilo, died April 25, 2016, at Life Care Center of Hilo. She was born on Dec. 12, 1930, in Atok, Flora, Apayao, Philippines. She was a self-employed guava and papaya farmer. She was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pahoa.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. May 17 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Hilo. Visitation will continue from 8 to 10 a.m. on May 18 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pahoa; Funeral Mass at 10 a.m.; burial to follow at the church cemetery. Casual attire.
She is survived by, husband, Angelo Jose of Hilo; sons, Victor (Debbie Tagalicod) Jose of Pahoa and Joel Jose of Pepeekeo; daughters, Erma (Rudy) Natividad of Lihue, Kauai, Bong (Irene Pasol) Rivera of Lihue, Kauai, Gemmalee (John) Arellano of Keaau and Judith (Lito) Acob of Hilo; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Betty Harris, 83, of Keaau died April 28, 2016, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born Sept. 24, 1932, in California, she retired as a laboratory technician for the Veterans Hospital.

Cris Takeshi Miyao, 64, of Hilo, died May 6, 2016, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born Feb. 13, 1952, in Hilo, he was a retired Hawaii County building inspector.

He is survived by wife, Jill Miyao of Hilo; son, Cris (Crystal) Miyao, Jr. of Keaau; daughters, Cristina (Troy) Miyao, Brianna (Jeffren) Galdones, both of Hilo; brother, Glenn (Amy) Miyao of Hilo; hanai brother, John Leite of Hilo; nine grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Kazuko Ushijima
Kazuko Ushijima, 89, of Hilo died April 13, 2016, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born Nov. 19, 1926, in Hilo, she was retired from the former Ebesu’s Limited as a floral clerk.

She is survived by daughter, Deborah Shigehara of Hilo; sons, Donn Ushijima, Dean Ushijima, both of Hilo; sisters, Hatsuyo Takahashi, Mitsuko (Robert) Holi, both of Hilo; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
