Postal Service food drive Saturday
More than 175,000 mail carriers across the nation will lead the Postal Service’s effort to “Stamp Out Hunger” by collecting food donations throughout the country on Saturday in the 24th annual National Association of Letter Carriers’ Food Drive.
Residents are urged to place nonperishable food items next to their mailbox for pickup on Saturday before their usual mail pickup time. The mail carriers will bring donations back to their post offices where postal employees and volunteers will sort the food and deliver it to their nearest food bank.
Last year, more than 63,000 pounds of food was collected on Hawaii Island and nationwide, almost 70 million pounds of food was collected.
Daifukuji Soto Mission bazaar Sunday
The Daifukuji Soto Mission bazaar will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Kona Daifukuji Taiko next to Teshima’s in Honalo.
This annual event features a variety of food, including sushi, manju, preserves, and baked goods. Produce, plants, clothing, household items, books, a silent auction, and by-donation massages will also be included.
Entertainment will be provided by Kona Daifukuji Taiko.

KTA 100th anniversary discussed on air
KTA Superstores is one of few businesses in the state to have reached its 100th birthday. The grandson and great-grandson of the founders of this Hawaii Island business, Barry Taniguchi and Toby Taniguchi, will be featured in a talk story Sunday. They will discuss the chain’s founding and expansion, the challenges of running a grocery chain on Hawaii Island, and the future of KTA and leadership.

Hospital auxiliary meeting canceled
The Kona Community Hospital Auxiliary has canceled its meeting originally scheduled for Monday.
The bake sale that is held from 7 to 9 a.m. every Friday in the hospital cafeteria is still on.

Boys &Girls Club of the Big Island receives donation
Boys &Girls Club of the Big Island recently received $7,559.31 through Ohana Fuels “Fuel up. Do good” community giving program. Ohana Fuels partners with nonprofit organizations and donates a portion of every gallon of gasoline purchased at all Ohana Fuels stations in that community.
Boys &Girls Club of the Big Island reaches 300 Big Island youth through after-school programs in Hilo, Keaau, Pahoa, Hamakua and Pahala.
