The 38th annual Hawaii Island Visitor Industry Charity Walk will be held Saturday at Queens’ MarketPlace in Waikoloa. The walk begins at 6:45 a.m. for runners and 7 a.m. for walkers. Runners must register from 5:30-6:30 a.m. while walkers can register from 5:30-8 a.m.

The 3.7-mile run/walk will begin and end Queens’ MarketPlace with entertainment and food stations. Walkers are treated to food, drink and fun at checkpoints along the walk route. “A tradition of giving. We’re all in this together,” is the theme for this year’s charity walk.

Walkers are treated to food, drink and fun at checkpoints along the route. After the walk, more than 20 food stands will offer cuisine from area restaurants.

A minimum donation of $35 per adult and $25 per child is requested.

In 1974, the Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association sponsored a charitable “Superwalk” to benefit one major charitable organization. In 1978, association members voted to extend the reach of support offered by the fundraising capability of the walk, and created the Visitor Industry Charity Walk, from which all Hawaii nonprofit charities are eligible to benefit. Since 1978, more than $28 million has been raised benefiting hundreds of local charities; in 2015, $1.8 million was raised by more than 11,000 participants during 2015.
