On May 13 from 5:30 – 9:30 p.m., a paina and open house will feature music, hula, food and house tours at the Pahala Plantation House. The event is free, but donations will be accepted for Miss Ka’u Coffee Scholarship Fund. Info: kaucoffeefest.com, pahalaplantationcottages.com, 928-9811.

On May 14 at 2 p.m., the free Ka’u Coffee Recipe Contest hosts a cooking competition at Ka’u Coffee Mill. Info: kaucoffeemill.com, Lisa, 928-0550.

On May 14 at 6:30 p.m. the annual Miss Ka’u Coffee Pageant showcases the crowning of 2016 Miss Ka’u Coffee and her court at the Ka’u Coffee Mill. Admission is $10.

On May 15 from 2-6 p.m. the new Ka’u Coffee Festival Lobsterpalooza will be at Punaluu Black Sand Beach. Tickets $75 in advance. Info: kaucoffeefestival.com/events.

On May 18 and 19 a hike in the Wood Valley rainforest will be guided from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $40 including lunch.

On May 20 at 10 a.m. Coffee &Cattle Day is planned at Aikane Plantation Coffee farm. A $25 fee includes a buffet. Info: aikaneplantation.com, 927-2252.

On May 20 from 5:30-10 p.m. stargazing will be offered from the summit of Makanau. Cost is $35 with refreshments and shuttle transportation departing from Ka’u Coffee Mill. Sign up: kaucoffeemill.com, 928-0550.

On May 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. the festival culminates with the Ka’u Coffee Festival Hoolaulea — a full day of live music, hula, food booths, local crafts, keiki activities, educational displays, coffee tastings and farm/mill tours headquartered inside and out of the Pahala Community Center.
