Volunteers sought to help visitors who face adversity
The Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii Island is seeking volunteers to provide assistance to visitors who experience misfortune. VASH provides supportive services to visitors who experience adversities such as crime victimization, medical emergencies, or the death of a loved one while visiting the Big Island. Volunteers are needed to visit families in the hospital, provide transportation and share the aloha spirit with those in need. Training is provided.

Caregivers classes offered
To help family caregivers cope with the demands of caring for their loved ones with chronic medical conditions, Hawaii Community Caregiver Network (HCCN) is sponsoring free Powerful Tools for Caregivers classes at two locations. Beginning May 15 and continuing every Sunday until June 19, classes will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. at Hawaii Office on Aging, Building B at West Hawaii Civic Center.
On May 17 and continuing every Tuesday until June 21, PTC classes will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. at Regency at Hualalai, 75-181 Hualalai Road.
During the six-week class series, family caregivers will learn self-care tools to reduce personal stress, change negative self-talk and communicate their needs.
Attendance is required at all six classes. A $25 deposit for course materials will be collected at the first class and refunded upon completion of the six-week series.

Radio group to meet
The Kona Amateur Radio Society’s “Get On the Air!” group with hold its first monthly meeting at 2 p.m. Saturday at the West Hawaii Civic Center.
“Get On the Air!” was formed to show what ham radio is to those who may not know, to help those new to amateur radio get started on a good foundation, and for those who may be more seasoned in the service of radio communications the chance to teach this fun, and very useful activity to others.

Scholarships available for summer dance classes
West Hawaii Dance Theatre &Academy is accepting scholarship applications from students age 6 through 18 who are interested in attending a 2016 Summer Dance Camps and Summer Dance Classes. Scholarships are based on financial need and commitment to the performing arts. Funds have been provided by grants from Macy’s and the Ironman Foundation.

Hilo High School class of 1971 is looking for Pink Panthers for its 45th class reunion. Two gatherings will be held Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 in Hilo.
