Volcano Art Center and the San Diego Zoo Institute for Conservation Research announce a statewide call to artists for its upcoming exhibit celebrating the alala, or native Hawaiian crow.

The exhibit, “Return of Alala: Restoring The Voice Of Hawaii’s Native Forests,” fetes the reintroduction of this ecologically and culturally important species back into Hawaii’s native forests this September.

All Hawaii residents, age 18 and older, may participate. Artists may work in all media and collaborate on pieces, as long as each artist is clearly identified. A prospectus is available online at www.volcanoartcenter.org. Artwork must be submitted by Aug. 26.

The opening reception will be 5-7 p.m. Sept. 3 at the center’s gallery in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
