Don Goodman, Anne Kelleher and Cheryl Jones will be featured during Kona Stories Book Shop’s Words and Wine event at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Keauhou Shopping Center.
Goodman, author of “Rock & Roll Stockbroker,” grew up in a Brooklyn ghetto, and found his way to Wall Street success through luck, hard work and the kind of determination only a kid from the backstreets could bring. Dividing his time between the Big Island and Connecticut, he continues his love affair with poetry, music and the stock market.
The book is the true story of how Goodman, an ex-hippie poet, grew up, got lucky and rocked Wall Street for more than 30 years. He shares tales of how ferrying drug dealers in his taxi, and interviewing rock stars in dumpy backstage rooms contributed to his success building a business as a financial professional beginning with the Great Bull Market of the 1980s through 9/11 and beyond.
Kelleher, born and raised at the South Jersey shore, divides her time between the Big Island and Connecticut. Her first novel, “Daughter of Prophecy,” was chosen by Warner Books as an inaugural release for its Aspect sci-fi/fantasy line, and she has since written and published many more novels and short stories, including the critically acclaimed “Shadowlands” trilogy by Harlequin-Luna. In 2015, Kelleher became a “hybrid” author with the independent release of her collection of short stories, “Free to Good Home.”
“Free to Good Home” is the lead-off story in this collection is a delightfully whimsical what-if explores the boundaries what it means to be family.
Jones will discuss her book, “Sea Me See Me,” which provides a simple way to learn to say what you feel. Shared time finding faces and listening to what each child sees is a journey into their social and emotional world. The sea life images are funny and enchanting while inviting focus on facial features. She grew up in Mustang, Oklahoma.
Following a more formal book presentation from each author there will be a Q&A session. The event concludes at 8 p.m.
