Wailoa Center invites the community to help celebrate the debut of the Hilo gallery’s inaugural “10x10x10 Artist Challenge” at an opening reception from 5-7 p.m. on May 6. Potluck pupu are welcome at this free event honoring the artists. The exhibit closes May 26.
The 10 artists who have accepted the “Challenge” have had one year to develop their ideas and create art to be displayed in one of 10 sectioned-off spaces upstairs in the main gallery. Participants were tasked with using a mandatory list of 10 materials, and nothing else.
“The nine mandated materials are wooden pallets, toilet paper, wire mesh, plastic wrap, canvas, paint, plaster of Paris, a light source and any type of fasteners needed for their construction, plus an ‘artist’s choice’ of one additional type of material,” said Wailoa Center gallery director Codie King.
Wailoa Center is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
