KAILUA-KONA — A new dengue fever case has been confirmed on Hawaii Island, the state Department of Health announced Friday.

The state says the newly added case had an older onset, but was just recently confirmed and is not indicative of recent activity. Currently, none of the confirmed cases are potentially infectious to mosquitoes. The last on of illness remains March 17.

Since the start of the outbreak in September of 2015, 264 cases of the mosquito-borne virus have been confirmed on the island; 238 are Hawaii Island residents and 26 are visitors. Forty-six have been children younger than age 18, according to the state.

While 264 cases have been confirmed, 1,633 reported potential cases have been excluded based on test results and/or not meeting case criteria.
