The Rotary Club of Kona Mauka will recognize Jerry Tracy, artist director of Aloha Performing Arts Company at an award luncheon at noon Tuesday at Teshima’s restaurant. Lunch is $25 per person. Reservations: Donna Hiranaka, 322-0202.
On Wednesday, the Rotary Club of Kona Sunrise will welcome Melody Stone, founder of Hawaii Coalition Against Human Trafficking. Stone is working to open a drop-in center for at-risk youth and a trafficking prevention education program. Talk focuses on indigenous crops
Kona Historical Society will present for its Hanohano O Kona lecture series with Noa Kekuewa Lincoln from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at West Hawaii Civic Center.
Lincoln is an assistant professor at University of Hawaii at Manoa in the Tropical Plant and Soil Science department. He recently completed his PhD at Stanford University. His work is focused on indigenous crops and cropping systems.He will discuss the Kona field system of agriculture.

Kailua-Kona Seniors attend movie
Kailua-Kona Seniors will attend a free movie day at 10 a.m. Wednesday at West Hawaii Civic Center, Building A. The movie is open to all interested seniors. “Love and Mercy,” a biographical film about musician and songwriter Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, will be shown. No formal meeting is planned at Hale Halawai this week.

Vendors needed for church bazaar
Kauahaao Congregational Church in Waiohinu will hold a fundraising bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 30 on the church grounds on the corner of Mamalahow Highway, Kamaoa Road and Pinao Street.
Individual, schools, clubs, and athletic groups are invited to be vendors at the flea market. The charge for a 10-foot by 10-foot space is $10. Vendors must bring their own tent, table, chairs, and generator is power is needed. Vendors may sell anything except hot food.
The church will sell plate lunches and containers of Kalua pig, as well baked goods.

Spiritual art exhibit planned
“The Spiritual in Painting” is the theme of an upcoming exhibit by artist Jan Parker.
Parker has been painting in Hawaii for the past 30 years. He describes his current work as seeking to express the spiritual dimension of the cosmos. The exhibit is from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday through April 30 at at Hawaiian Queen Coffee Garden, 75-1048 Henry St.
The exhibit is being sponsored by the Pacific Rim Education Foundation.

Ponytails sought to make wigs for cancer patients
Kamaaina Diamond Co. is collecting pre-cut ponytails that will be donated to Pantene Beautiful Lengths and made into free wigs for cancer patients.
A hair cutting event is planned in Oct. 18. Volunteer hair stylists will offer free hair cutting and styling. Donors will receive a $50 gift certificate from Kamaaina Diamond and a chance to win prizes in a drawing. The goal is to collect more than 1,500 ponytails.

Lions Club of Kona announces scholarships
The Lions Club of Kona Community Foundation has six scholarships available to graduating Konawaena High School seniors.
Three $1,000 scholarships are available to graduating seniors seeking a bachelor’s degree at any accredited post-secondary institution. Please see Jessica Steele on campus at Konawaena for applications. Deadline is 3 p.m. May 6.
The foundation will also award two $500 scholarships to Konawaena High School alumni who have graduated within the past two years and are seeking assistance to attend any accredited post-secondary, two-year degree or certification program in the fall.
