KAILUA-KONA — No new cases of dengue fever have been confirmed on Hawaii Island since late March, according to state Department of Health officials.

Monday marked the 26th straight day health officials have announced no new cases of the mosquito-borne virus on the island. Since the start of the outbreak in September, 263 cases have been confirmed on the island with 237 being Hawaii Island residents and 26 being visitors. Forty-six have been children younger than age 18.

The last onset of illness was March 17 and the last announced confirmed case came March 23. None of the cases are considered potentially infectious to mosquitoes, health officials said Monday.

Some 1,624 reported potential cases have been excluded based on test results and/or not meeting case criteria.
