Konawaena’s Logan Canda has not seen a lot of time on the mound this season after injuring his knee during the preseason. He pitched only at select times during the regular season, but after saving the Wildcats with his arm in the first game of the best-of-3 BIIF semifinal series against Honokaa on Friday, Canda returned to the hill Saturday to start Game 2.

Going with the hot hand, Canda was nearly unhittable in his complete game performance, which allowed Konawaena to earn a 9-1 victory and clinch the series. The Wildcats will now go on to face top seeded Kamehameha in the BIIF championship series with the opening game slated for Friday.

“Logan is our ace pitcher and when he is on, he is on,” Konawaena head coach Adam Tabieros said. “He is our bulldog out there. He likes to battle and likes the pressure.”

Canda showed he can handle the pressure in the opening game of the series when he entered a tied game in the sixth inning, with the bases loaded, and one out. Canda struck out the two batters he faced in that inning and then struck out two of the four batters he saw in the final frame to pick up the save.

In his start on Saturday, Canda allowed only one unearned run and two hits, while striking out nine and walking two.
