Auntie Angels seeks donations

Auntie’s Angels will hold its monthly Soup Kitchen ‘n’ Pantry on Saturday. The nonprofit seeks donations of fresh fruits and vegetables along with paper products to share.

Workshop helps students prepare for life after high school

High school students are invited to a workshop, “Prepare to Succeed at College-age Life” from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at Grace Community Church.

Guest speakers from InterVarsity Christian Fellowship will share insights about life after high school. The class includes a question and answer time.

Earth Day Celebration planned at PTA

The Army will host an Earth Day Celebration from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 22 at the Base Camp of Pohakuloa at mile marker 35 of Saddle Road.

The Army’s Pohakuloa Natural Resources team will highlight its program through interactive displays on the management of threatened and endangered species. During garden tours, visitors will have opportunity to view some of the unique plants managed at PTA. There will also be a series of talks on the ecology and natural history.

The Army’s Pohakuloa Cultural Resources team will also present interactive displays showcasing the Army’s efforts to manage and preserve cultural resources. Visitors will have the opportunity to take a virtual, interactive tour of a lava tube and to see the tools and technology Army archaeologists use. Keiki can become archaeologists-in-training during a mock dig activity and a petroglyph learning experience. There will also be a talk story about the history of the saddle region.

Visitors must show current photo identification at the main gate. Drivers must have a current license, registration, safety inspection and proof of insurance.

Household hazardous waste collected

Household Hazardous Waste collection events will occur from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Kailua-Kona (Kealakehe) Recycling and Transfer Station.

The event is for household generated and self-hauled waste only. Business, government agency, nonprofit agency or farm wastes are not allowed. No electronic waste will be accepted.

Some types of acceptable waste are automotive fluids, used batteries, fluorescent lights and pesticides. Latex paint will be accepted for reuse. For a more complete list of acceptable or unacceptable waste, visit hawaiizerowaste.org.

Passenger car tires without rims should be given to the facility attendant on duty by the rubbish chutes during April.

The next scheduled Household Hazardous Waste Collection in Kailua-Kona will be on June 11.
