Woodworker Doug Leite earned the Big Island Woodturners Exhibit People’s Choice Award for his piece, “My Affair with a Long Legged Beauty.”

The Cook pine and blackwood piece was also awarded the Turner’s Choice by the members of the Big Island Woodworkers Club.

The 18th annual Big Island Woodturners Exhibit ended March 31 at Wailoa Center in Hilo. It attracted more than 2,000 visitors to the exhibit that displayed 150 examples of finely turned bowls and objects from local and exotic woods. Visitors were asked to cast a vote for their favorite turning, and at least 1,200 voted during the month of March.
