Financial advisor addresses brain injury support group

The brain injury support group meets from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hawaiian Rehab Services just mauka of Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union on Hualalai Road.

Dane Decker, financial advisor and Ironman finisher, will discuss the role of a financial advisor in helping someone with financial products, investments and services.

Invited are all brain injury, stroke or other neuro-trauma survivors, their families and caregivers, interested professionals and the public.

Degree preparation workshops planned

Hawaii Community College – Palamanui will host several degree preparation workshops at the new campus in North Kona. The workshops will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Wedneday in room 183, from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday in room 183, and from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday in room 106.

Students will learn what degrees are offered in West Hawaii, the necessary steps to move forward, key deadlines, methods of program delivery and what it takes to be a successful distance learning student.

Low Vision Support Group meets

The Low Vision Support Group of the West Hawaii Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind will meet at 11 a.m. Friday at Hale Halawai. The meeting is free and open to the public.

The group meets monthly to share information, resources and support.

VFW schedule announced

VFW Post 12122 behind Kona Locksmith off Kaiwi Street will host several events this week.

Pizza with salad and dessert will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday for $5.

VFW Auxiliary will meet at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Elections will be held along with conducting their annual state inspection.

Waimea Healthy Keiki Fest Saturday

The 17th annual Waimea Healthy Keiki Fest will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 16 at the Parker Ranch Center. Designed for children ages 3 to 12, keiki and their parents will spend the day exploring more than 30 free, hands-on activities related to fitness, health, nutrition and safety.

Free bicycle helmets will be distributed. There will also be a Glow Monster hand hygiene education, a bike safety course, Blue Zones pedal, Incredible Edible Art, car seat fitting and collage art activity.

Each child will receive a passport to track their participation at each learning booth. A completed passport offers keiki the opportunity to choose from a host of activities such as the rock climbing wall or a bounce house.
