In BIIF softball at the Warriors’ field, Waiakea rallied for a 10-8 victory, locking down the top seed in the Division I playoffs.
With the Warriors trailing by a run in the bottom of the sixth, Skylar Thomas hit a two-run double and came all the way around to score when her hit was misplayed in the outfield.
Alyssa Hara pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief of Kristi Hirata to get the victory, allowing two hits and a walk.
Shaily Moses was 3 for 3 with a pair of two-run singles for the Warriors (11-2), and Tierra Teves, Taylor Nishimura and Thomas were each 2 for 4.
For the Vikings (6-7), Mandy Kawaha was 3 for 4 and Shalyn Guthier went 2 for 4. Zoe Cabarloc worked six innings in defeat, striking out four and walking three, while allowing 10 runs on 11 hits.
The Warriors need Keaau (3-9) to beat Kealakehe (10-2) on Saturday to garner an automatic berth to the HHSAA tournament. If the Waveriders win, both of the league’s state berths will be up for grabs in the BIIF semifinals. In best-of-three series that start Thursday, Waiakea will host Keaau and Kealakehe will welcome Hilo.
Waiakea’s advantage against Hilo on Friday extended beyond the softball field. It also had its way with its rival in baseball, winning 5-4 at Wong Stadium, and volleyball, claiming a 25-18, 25-19 victory at the Vikings’ gym.
