The Kailua Village Artists will feature three member artists this evening during a public reception.
Watercolor painter and digital designer, Stefanie Culbertson, porcelain and watercolor painter Betty Gerstner, and oil painter Christal Nylin, will be featured during the 5 to 7:30 p.m. event at the gallery located in Kona Marketplace. Light pupu and refreshments will be served along with music.
Culbertson, who has a bachelor’s degree in digital design, has been painting in watercolors for more than 25 years. In the last eight years she expanded her “Anuenue Series” of vibrant watercolor paintings. Her latest painting featured in the series is titled “The Guardians,” portraying the fierce carved wooden images of gods, the kii (tiki), on the way toward the Hale o Keawe in Puuhonua O Honaunau, the place of refuge.
Gerstner has been a porcelain artist more than 36 years and studied watercolors with some of the better known watercolor masters on the Big Island. She now divides her time between the two mediums of porcelain and watercolor. Her featured piece is “Starfish,” which depicts a starfish tangled in seaweed.
Nylin, a long-time Kona resident, paints in oils capturing the beautiful sites of this island. She is known for her series of coffee paintings. Nylin’s featured oil painting is titled “Kailua Village Bay,” which portrays the view from the pier toward Kailua.
The gallery is open 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily.
