Auditions for kids will be held 6 p.m. April 24 and 25 at Aloha Theatre. A possible invitational call back audition may be held on April 26, if needed. No prior stage experience is required, and newcomers and first-timers are encouraged to audition.
“A Kidsummer Night’s Dream” runs June 10-19, and is directed by Jerry Tracy.
The performance offers a rare opportunity for young performers to speak the words of the world’s most famous playwright, William Shakespeare, as well as take part in fun scenes and songs inspired by his work. Because the cast will be made up entirely of youngsters, the rehearsal schedule, which begins May 2, has been pared down. Rehearsals will be conducted Monday through Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Not every cast member will be called to every rehearsal, but those auditioning and their parents or guardians should examine the schedule carefully before signing, indicating they understand.
Like the rehearsal process, the audition process will be also kid-friendly. After registration is complete, those auditioning will sit in chairs in a circle on the stage. In turns, they will introduce themselves. For the next round, each member will be asked to expand on the introduction by sharing some of their favorites: colors, food, or hobbies, for example. In the next round, each member will be asked to share a poem, a joke, a short story, or a song. Some singing, reading and movement may follow, all very low key. Memorization is not required. The ability to read is not a requirement for everyone, since there will be some non-speaking roles.
