LAHAINA (AP) — State officials say a shark bit a tourist’s foot while she was snorkeling off west Maui.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources says the woman was snorkeling Thursday with a tour group a half-mile off Olowalu. She was in 18 feet of murky water when she felt a tug on her fin and looked back to see a gray shark swimming away. A tour employee reported seeing an 8-foot-long tiger shark.
The state says the woman was treated on the boat for a minor foot injury.
Shark warning signs will remain posted until noon Friday, when officials will re-assess the situation.
