The Blue Sea Artisans Gallery featured artist for the month of April is photographer Denise Bird.
When Bird pivoted from a career in design to photography, her goal was to share the beauty that she sees with everyone. Her photographs have been sold around the world and her work has been seen in state, national and international magazines, publications and TV as well as Internet projects. Bird travels a bit, but concentrates most of her efforts on Hawaii Island.
Bird’s “Big Island Collection” features images fused to metal with heat and pressure. Most of these images have a special white coating that is between the metal and the image that gives the picture the necessary background to make the colors “pop.” Bird’s work can be seen online at www.birdinparadise.com.
A reception is slated 1-4 p.m. April 9 at Blue Sea Artisans Gallery in Kailua-Kona. The event will feature pupu and music. The gallery is located in the Kona International Market and is open 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sundays.
