A magnitude-3.8 earthquake was recorded early Wednesday near Loihi Seamount.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, the earthquake occurred at 3:10 a.m. about 2.5 miles northwest of the volcano’s summit. It had a registered depth of 26.5 miles.

It is the second earthquake with a magnitude greater than 3.0 to strike the Loihi area. On March 17, a magnitude-3.1 earthquake was recorded about 11.5 miles north-northwest of Loihi Seamount.

Neither prompted an information statement from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
