KAILUA-KONA — A fire in Waimea destroyed a shed and consumed about 125 acres in an area owned by Parker Ranch and the Department of Hawaiian Homelands on Monday.

The building was a 100-square-foot ranch shed. No injuries were reported and no homes were threatened, according to the Hawaii Fire Department.

The cause of the fire was undetermined and was contained but not extinguished as of press time.

There was also a report of smoke near mile marker 24 of Highway 190 in one of the areas burned by a fire earlier this year. It turned out to only be ash and soil blowing with no active flames, firefighters said.
