The temblor struck at 4:03 a.m. about 3 miles north of Kihei, according to the U.S. Geological Survey Hawaiian Volcano Observatory. It had a registered depth of about 22 miles.
Following the earthquake, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center posted an information bulletin notifying the public that no tsunami had been generated.
