HONOLULU — The Outdoor Heritage Caucus, co-chaired by Representative Cindy Evans and Sen. Laura H. Thielen, honored three nonprofit organizations for their promotion and dedication to outdoor recreation.
West Hawaii’s own, Peoples Advocacy for Trails Hawaii (PATH), was one of three organizations honored March 15 with floor presentations in the Senate and House. PATH celebrates its 30-year anniversary this year, with executive director Tina Clothier at the helm.
“PATH is a great advocate to ensure access to trails,” Evans said. “They embody the mission to identify, protect, and promote the state of Hawaii’s heritage of outdoor recreation.”
PATH is a Hawaii County community-based, nonprofit bicycle and pedestrian advocacy organization, founded in 1986. Their mission is to safely connect people and places on Hawaii Island with pathways and bikeways, in response to an emerging need for places to walk, bike, and hike — safely and legally – in Hawaii County.
The two nonprofit organizations that were honored along with PATH include AccesSurf, celebrating its 10-year anniversary, and Hawaii Bicycling League, celebrating its 40-year anniversary.
