KAILUA-KONA — No new cases of dengue fever were confirmed on Hawaii Island on Monday, state health officials report.

KAILUA-KONA — No new cases of dengue fever were confirmed on Hawaii Island on Monday, state health officials report.

The official case count remains at 262 confirmed cases on the island, according to the Department of Health. The most recent case was announced by the state on March 10. A case announced Friday, bringing the total case count to 262, involved a visitor to Hawaii who was tested upon return to the mainland United States and had onset of infection in February.

None of the cases remain potentially infectious to mosquitoes and the last onset of illness was March 4, according to the DOH.

Of the confirmed cases, 236 are Hawaii Island residents and 26 are visitors. Forty-six of the cases have been among children.

Officials have excluded 1,506 reported cases based on test results and/or not meeting case criteria since the start of the outbreak in September 2015.

No closures remain in effect because of the dengue fever outbreak. The last of three locations closed because the outbreak, Waipio Valley, was reopened this weekend.
