KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island’s confirmed dengue fever case increased by one to 262 on Friday, according to the state health officials.
The Department of Health announced no new cases of the mosquito-borne virus on Friday, but increased the number of cases to 262 after receiving confirmation of a recently acquired case of dengue fever.
“The individual was a visitor to Hawaii, who was tested upon return to the mainland United States. The onset of infection was in February, and well preceded the last known illness onset date. The individual has since recovered and is no longer infectious,” Anna Koethe, Public Health Information coordinator, said.
Of the confirmed cases, 236 are Hawaii Island residents and 26 are visitors.
The last time a new case was announced was March 10. None of the confirmed cases remains potentially infectious to mosquitoes and the last onset of illness was March 4.
Since the start of the outbreak in September, 1,498 reported potential cases have been excluded based on test results and/or not meeting case criteria.
