Na Hoku Hanohano Slack Key Album of the Year artist Kawika Kahiapo will headline the 2016 Kailua Kanikapila Community Picnic this Sunday in Kailua Village.
Kick back, relax and enjoy the show on the shoreline fronting Hale Halawai off Alii Drive. The free event gets underway at 1 p.m. and continues until sunset. Kahiapo performs at 5 p.m.
Attendees are encouraged to pack their own chairs and mats, as well as a picnic to enjoy. However, an array of vendors will be stationed at the county park selling food and drinks.
Now in its third year, the free community get-together attracts dozens of people to the county park located just south of the Alii Drive and Hualalai Road intersection.
In addition to the picnic, the Kailua Village Business Improvement District recently announced its lineup of 2016 special events.
May Day Brunch on the Bay is May 1. Honor the traditions of Hawaii with music, lei and food on the oceanfront lawn at the Courtyard Marriott King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel. Tickets go on sale in April.
A July 4th Concert is slated at the Coconut Grove Marketplace. The free concert precedes fireworks and festivities.
Kau Kau Kailua runs during the month of September and offers savings at participating restaurants throughout Kailua Village.
The Historic Kailua Village Luau is slated Oct. 1 for an evening of traditional Hawaiian food, entertainment and camaraderie. Tickets go on sale in September.
Kailua Kalikimaka is Dec. 11 and features the Kailua Village Marketplace at Hale Halawai, a free holiday concert during the Kokua Kailua Village Stroll, and the annual lighted boat parade in Kailua Bay.
Six new Village Marketplace events will be held this year from 1-6 p.m. on the grounds of Hale Halawai during Kokua Kailua. The event will feature products grown or produced on Hawaii Island. Marketplace dates are March 20, April 17, May 15, Aug. 21, Oct. 16 and Dec. 11.
The monthly Kokua Kailua Village Stroll, which runs 1 to 6 p.m. one Sunday each month, is slated March 20, April 17, May 15, June 12, July 17, Aug. 21, Sept. 18, Oct. 16, Nov. 20 and Dec. 11.
