Join Leilehua Yuen, Manu Josiah and members of the Hilo Lei Day Festival Floral Court to experience the history and heritage of Hawaii’s holoku Monday at Lyman Museum in Hilo.

From the first holoku (gown), made in 1820 for High Chiefess Kalakua Kaheiheimalie, to those created for this year’s Hanakahi Holoku Ball, the event will take attendees a sartorial trip through two centuries of culture, fashion, and creativity. Storytelling, oli, mele and hula will illustrate Yuen’s presentation while members of the floral court model replica historical holoku as well as vintage treasures from Yuen’s own collection.

The event is free to museum members; $3 for nonmembers. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. program.
