KAILUA-KONA — No new dengue fever cases have been confirmed on Hawaii Island since Feb. 24.
State Department of Health officials said Monday afternoon that they confirmed no new cases of the mosquito-borne virus over the weekend. The confirmed case count has stood at 260 for 13 days. Of the cases, 135 are Hawaii Island residents and 25 are visitors. Forty-six of the cases have been children.
With a lack of new cases, none of the confirmed cases remains potentially infectious to mosquitoes, health officials said. The last onset of illness occurred Feb. 13.
As of Monday, a total of 1,416 potential cases have been excluded based on test results and/or not meeting case criteria, health officials said.
Currently, no area on the island is considered a high-risk area of potential infection. Kailua-Kona was downgraded to a moderate-risk area on March 2.
